Hearing from young people across the Valley

What do you want in your community?

We have been in the schools across the Derwent Valley asking, 'What you love about your community?' & 'What don't you want to see in your community?' Young people are clear on naming up their likes and dislikes:

What brings you joy?

What brings you joy? Or what might bring a smile to someone else's face? Young people across the Valley have been asked to contribute to a shared art project. These rock paintings bring loads of joy - and a chance to reflect and discuss the small things! Cars, donuts, cats and rainbows! There is something there for everyone to bring some joy, and a smile!

What's your 'superpower'??

Air clay is a fun way to create all sorts of things. What's your superpower? Young people engaged in making all sorts of weird and wonderful things... generating great discussion and thinking about what they do best. Fun, bright, and great for a positive conversation and self-pride!

Place based work......

Kids and Teens in the Valley are working in all of the schools in the Derwent Valley to better understand young people's views and needs from community. How do the community support our young people? How do we engage with them? What do we hear? Chatterboxes are fun to make and ask questions in an engaging way!

The work it sets for the next four years

starting this work....

We are working to engage and create a strong youth voice network over this year. The Youth Summit is an opportunity to shine a light on these voices, recheck in on community themes, dreams, wants and needs. This Youth Summit will set the KTV Team, and other youth focused organisations up for their work over the next 3 years, and beyond.

We are looking to work with all the schools in the Valley and have representative young people attend the Youth Summit this year. This will include: ➜ Fairview Primary School ➜ Glenora District School ➜ Home Schooling Network ➜ Molesworth Primary School ➜ New Norfolk High School (NNHS) ➜ New Norfolk Primary School (NNPS) ➜ St Brigid's Catholic School ➜ The Indie School ➜ Westerway Primary School

We are working to connect with young people to help create and co-design the summit, discuss themes, opportunities and create content. As part of leadership programs in schools, we are supporting the development of projects, and leadership outcomes.
